Having family photos of your extended family is something many people overlook. Even if you're diligent about doing your annual family photos of immediate family members, often grandparents or aunts/uncles are not people you have professional photos of. I love when families make this a priority. Having these larger family photos is something that becomes so valuable over time, or when healthcare concerns or losses make us treasure the time we have with loved ones. For the Chambers family, making this a priority was something they will never regret. Sarah and Trent initiated these photos, after I had done their son's senior photos. I was thrilled to get to meet more of their wonderful clan, and it was easy to see where they get their sweet spirits and kind hearts: their parents! Alan and Mary have been married 45 years, and Sarah and Trent have been married 19 years. They are the parents of two boys, Jackson (who I did senior photos of), and Carson, who is in 8th grade. They also have a furry family member named Belle, their beloved family dog. As a family, they enjoy watching the various activities of their boys. Capturing memories was the most important part of this session, and I think we did just that!
When you are planning extended family photos, it's good to do coordinating colors and tones. I recommend choosing a similar hue, like blue or tan, and having everyone work within that color family. It's okay if everyone is not wearing traditional "matching" clothing because coordinating tones look much more cohesive and modern. It's also good to plan a photoshoot far in advance, in order to give elderly family members and families of infants/toddlers plenty of time to plan meals, naps, and wardrobe. Some families even build mood or vision boards to help everyone visualize what they have in mind. I'm happy to assist in any stage of the planning and to answer the questions you may have. Remember that the most important thing is to capture this season of life with your loved ones!
