Since it’s FINALLY Spring I feel like everyone always takes this time to spruce things up aka "spring clean” but I also think that can mean doing things for you. When I have a baby I get into a bit of a rut so I’m going to share my new habits that I feel are easy to incorporate into an already jam packed schedule. Also please note my kids sleep through the night and none of this would be happening if I wasn’t getting proper rest.
- Workout Routine:: Yes I work out every day. The trick is to make it easy... 20 minutes/day. I try to get to the Rec center 3 days/week for 30 Minutes and the other days I youtube either cardio or yoga.
- Eating Healthy:: My weekly goal is to eat 3 salads/week. That means if someone calls me for lunch heck yeah I’m going to be ordering a delicious cheeseburger because I still have 6 other days to get that salad in. I LOVE fruit and vegetables so that’s easy for me to incorporate into my meals each night, plus it makes the kiddos eat healthy. PS. I know people say to limit fruit because of sugar… but I figure it’s better than a cookie
- Massage:: I have a baby people (and she comes to work 2 days a week), alone time is non-existent... So every 4-6 weeks I’m on a regular massage schedule with Janet Studer. Let’s just says she’s AMAZING!!
- Prayer/ Gratitude/Journaling:: I have two apps on my phone that pop up every morning to give me inspiration and peace of mind. For those of you that also do this, is it super creepy that the verse totally fits what you’re going through. Without this I would be a complete head case. I also write down 5 good things that happened the previous day. Sometimes I have a pretty boring life so it can be as basic as Piper took a great nap so I got a ton of work done or a feel good like I helped someone at the store get something off the shelf. I would love to start journaling so if anyone has any tips for that please share.
- Hobby:: For me I need fresh air so in the summer I garden. In the winter I come up with shop projects. This winter I built a table and a bench. I don’t get to do it often and my projects take forever with two kiddos, but I eventually get it done.
Tips to get your fresh start (Start Small)
- Morning Routine:: When I started all of this I got up 15 minutes early. Then I started getting up 30 minutes earlier. Then I realized how much happier it was making me and now I get up every morning at 5:00 AM and have a full 1.5 hours to myself. (I’m actually writing this at 6:00 AM).
- Workout Routine:: When I was brand new at this my goal was much smaller, 10 minutes/day and that included very light weights and mainly yoga. I didn’t want sweat.
- Eating Healthy:: I started off just eating one salad/week. If you're new to eating healthy maybe just try one new vegetable/week. As you incorporate this slowly it just becomes a habit until you're ready to add something new.
- Prayer/ Gratitude/Journaling:: Find one app that fits your needs. It takes just a few minutes from your day to read a passage. I use inspirations(my favorite as it has a verse and then a story to interpret the verse) or just download an affirmation app, that's even quicker to read. :)
- Hobby:: You need to find what works for you. Reading, gardening, mowing, browsing target without kids. This is something you might not get to do often but when you need a few hours make sure you take it. Your kiddos deserve a happy mamma.
This might not be for everyone but I just want you to know that if you need a change in your life you need to find what makes you happy and schedule it into your day. You might be a night person and you prefer to do this when the kiddos go to bed.
It doesn’t mean some mornings I don’t hit snooze and say screw it…. But I almost always regret it so it motivates me the next day. Plus incorporating healthier foods into my regular lifestyle means I get to have ice cream whenever I want it. :)
