When I first started the Icon Program, my intention was to assist teenagers in gaining confidence and discovering a new perspective of themselves through photography. Little did I know how profoundly this experience would impact my own personal growth as both an individual and a photographer.
The girls I've been working with have brought an abundance of joy and laughter into my life. Their wit and humor constantly keep me on my toes. I am immensely grateful for the friendships they have forged with one another, which might not have blossomed without this program.
Their genuine acceptance and warm embrace of each other inspired us to embark on a day trip to Okoboji, Iowa; a perfect opportunity to capture some unique and fun photographs. It was so fun to offer them a mini-destination senior shoot, allowing them to step out of their usual surroundings.
During the shoot, I challenged myself to capture images under direct sunlight, a departure from my preference for open shade. This senior adventure pushed me out of my comfort zone as a photographer and provided an exciting learning experience.
We started the day with a selection of fun dresses from Carbon Boutique and concluded with a more casual outfit they brought from home. This gave us a chance to play a little in the beautiful waters of Lake Okoboji.
I am so thankful to Jordan's mom for accompanying us on this adventure and offering her valuable assistance. I also extend a huge shout-out to Carbon Boutique for generously allowing the girls to choose outfits for the day. Additionally, before leaving town, Heidi McCullough provided her expertise in hair and makeup, enhancing the overall experience for everyone involved.
The Icon Program has not only allowed me to help teenagers build confidence and self-perception through photography but has also facilitated my personal growth and development as an artist. The laughter, friendships, and adventures shared with these amazing individuals have left a noteworthy mark on my journey. I am eager to continue capturing memories and empowering more seniors as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
If you can see yourself in any of these photos and you're still in search of a senior photographer, I have 3 remaining summer sessions available, and I am also accepting bookings for the Class of 2024 in the fall. Feel free to reach out to me via text at 515-890-0879, where we can discuss the senior session that fits perfectly with your unique style and preferences.
