One of my favorite parts of working with my icon team is organizing group shoots. There’s something truly magical about getting everyone together for a group session. The energy is electric, laughter fills the air, friendships blossom, and creativity flows in ways that never fail to amaze me. It always takes me by surprise when teens who may not know each other quickly bond, and become friends quite overnight. These group shoots are where it always begins, with just a small bond that grows into something really awesome.
Stop, listen, collaborate! Group shoots also give my team members a chance to step into a collaborative environment. Whether it’s hyping each other up during individual portraits or brainstorming fun poses as a group, the teamwork is inspiring. It’s in these moments that they realize they’re part of something bigger than themselves, and what I really envisioned: a community of supportive, creative peers. And let’s be honest, some of the best memories are made during those spontaneous moments of silliness in between shots! We have so much fun on these shoots, and I personally look forward to every single one.
New skills, who’s this? One of the things I love most about the ICON experience is how it helps my team members develop skills they might not even realize they’re gaining. For example, being in front of the camera teaches them confidence and poise, but it also sharpens their time management as they juggle shoots, school, and other commitments. They learn how to express themselves, whether it’s through their personal style or by advocating for causes they’re passionate about during themed shoots. Some even discover a love for photography and start experimenting with their own cameras at home.
Moms and dads approve: Parents often tell me how much they enjoy watching their teens grow through the whole experience. Seeing their child gain confidence, make new friends, and step into their own is such a rewarding feeling. It’s not just about the stunning photos that come out of it (because, obviously) it’s about the transformation that happens along the way. For many families, these milestones become photos they love looking back in for years and years to come. Teens feel confident and beautiful, and remember how much fun they had.
For me, the team program is more than a way to showcase my photography. Watching all these teens grow individually while building meaningful connections with each other is the most fulfilling part of what I do. And seeing the joy on parents’ faces when they realize how much their teen has blossomed? That’s the cherry on top.
