As a senior photographer, there are moments when I encounter a student who stands out. They often have a story of authenticity and resiliency that leads to a confidence and self-discovery. Catelyn, from Humboldt High School, embodies this type of young person, and I loved hearing about her journey.
This bright graduate’s high school journey has been shaped by a profound lesson: "Everyone is going to have a different opinion on you. So do what makes you happy!" This wisdom, acquired through the ups and downs of teenage years, serves as a compass guiding her towards a contentedness that she credits to her family. Reflecting on her freshman self, she advises, "Don’t try to fit in, be yourself!" These words encapsulate the hallmarks of her growth, a journey marked by self-acceptance and a celebration of uniqueness.
When she peers ahead into the future, Catelyn hopes to become a nurse. This decision reflects the compassion and resiliency she gained in her own battle with cancer and other medical challenges (her showing off her ring in these photos is her saying "F You" to cancer!). She is incredibly brave, and the experiences have made her stronger. Beyond graduation, she also dreams of both travel and securing a meaningful job, showcasing the balance between personal exploration and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world around her. I was so honored she chose me as her senior photographer (she made me blush with the comment, “Brittany does great work!”), and grateful that I have been part of her unique story. Congratulations, Catelyn!
