You know those ice-breakers where you go around the room and say what you love most about a job or a book or an experience? Those kinds of ice-breakers give me anxiety, but I can definitely tell you what I love most about my job! And that is the connections I get to build with the amazing clients I work with. Senior year is a whirlwind of emotions, and it’s always my desire to be a constant in the middle of what can feel like chaos. The connection I build with my amazing families and grads is what makes the experience so special and what lays the foundation of a senior photoshoot you’ll never forget.
Establishing rapport with your senior photographer (me!) helps you feel more comfortable. Picture this: You’re finally in front of the camera, feeling self-conscious and awkward, but with a photographer that you really trust, the nerves disappear. When clients feel at ease, their photos shine, and who they are comes through clearly! Here are a few things you can do to ensure that this experience is stress-free and full of memories you will actually treasure:
Attend and communicate: It’s important to communicate and also to stay up-to-date on the emails and information that your photographer sends your way. That means you and your parent or guardian need to make sure you’re both reading everything thoroughly and responding by the deadlines. That will eliminate stress for you and also allow me plenty of time to plan and design your session without having to bug you for responses. Smooth communication on both our parts will be a great start! It’s also a good idea to write down any ideas you may have, so that I can brainstorm how to incorporate them and spend time planning things out.
Be open-minded: You may want to bring something into your senior shoot that others don’t understand, or that you’ve never seen done before. That’s okay! Don’t underestimate the power of the personal touches in your session, and please share things with me like your hobbies, inspiration and dreams. When you trust me to bring your vision and/or dreams to life, that’s when the magic happens. I go from being a stranger behind the lens to a trusted ally in capturing your unforgettable senior year.
Don't shy away from collaboration and creativity: Your senior photos should be a reflection of who you are: unique, authentic, and full of personality. Feel free to suggest locations, poses, or themes that resonate with you. I will always appreciate your input and work collaboratively to bring your vision to life, resulting in photos that truly speak to who you are! After the shoot, keep the lines of communication open. My goal is to ensure your complete satisfaction with the final gallery, so don't hesitate to voice your opinions and preferences!
