In small towns like ours, there are pretty big dreams…and seniors like Carson have the biggest dreams of all. This serene, genuine senior has been through a journey during his high school years, and the fact that he trusted me to capture his senior year wasn’t something I took lightly. The tale of his high school years was unique and exciting to unravel, and it’s a story filled with lots of fun! At just 18, Carson has already achieved so much for his young age, and has a passion for sports that’s unmatched. He is very level-headed, and is the kind of guy that doesn’t let much ruffle his feathers, instead preferring to approach everything and everyone with an easygoing attitude.
When we sat down to plan and design his senior shoot, it quickly became a reflection of his personality: relaxed, focused, and enjoyable! He shared that he wanted something that reflected his true self, so that is precisely what we did. I wanted to focus on his love of sports and his laid-back vibe. Currently, this talented guy wants to attend Iowa State and study finance, because he loves math and working with numbers. After graduation, he also hopes to spend some time in Florida, where he wants to explore the beach and the everglades. He describes himself as someone who really treasures the people around him, and adds, "Having good friends that you can spend time with and go to for anything is important to me”. Carson’s family had used me before for family photos and his brother’s senior photos, and it was so much fun to reconnect with them.
If you are a senior guy like Carson, here are some tips to make the most out of your photography session:
- Be true to yourself: Your senior photos should reflect who you are. Whether you’re into sports, music, or academics, embrace your passions and let them shine through in your shoot.
- Communicate clearly with your photographer: Like Carson, if you have specific preferences or ideas for your shoot, don’t hesitate to communicate them with your photographer. They’re there to bring your vision to life.
- Keep things simple: Sometimes, less is more. Opt for locations and outfits that reflect your personal style without overwhelming the frame. A relaxed, authentic vibe always translates well in photos.
- Relax and have fun: It’s natural to feel a bit nervous in front of the camera, but remember to relax and enjoy the experience. Trust your photographer to guide you, and let your genuine smile do the talking!
