This grad is humble yet determined, and that’s a pretty hard combination to find among high school guys these days! Meet Lance, whose stellar achievements on the football field, passion for history, and empathy for others have shaped his years at Humboldt High School. He’s the epitome of well-rounded, and one of his best characteristics is that he never brags about his success. Despite his many athletic achievements (including being a first-team all-state running back and part of a state championship relay race), Lance remains grounded and approachable. He’s also the kind of guy who will strike up a conversation with anyone, regardless of their background or interests.
Speaking of interests, Lance's favorite subject in school has always been history. He finds himself drawn to the action and adventure of the past, often imagining himself in the shoes of historical figures. When asked about his role model, Lance doesn't hesitate to mention his dad. Coming from a rural background, Lance's dad instilled in him a super strong work ethic and faith-based values. It’s those values and principles that have shaped this senior into who he is today: a person who treats everyone with respect and who knows what he believes. And, it’s important to know it's not just about personal values for Lance. He’s got a strong passion about mental health awareness, understanding the impact our actions can have on others. Lance has learned firsthand the importance of genuine connections and the toll of trying to please everyone. His advice to his freshman self? Take the time to develop self-love and stick to your core values, no matter what. As he looks to the future (and it’s bright!), Lance dreams of becoming a strength and conditioning coach for a college or NFL team. Despite facing setbacks, like breaking his hand during his senior year of football, his competitive spirit and determination never wavers.
I was so grateful that he chose me to do his senior shoot, and he explained he was drawn to the genuine approach we take to senior photos. I loved that he felt at ease and confident. So, what's next for Lance? After graduation, he plans to travel, deepen his faith, and continue his journey of self-discovery. And who knows? Maybe one day we'll see him coaching on the sidelines of a college football game, inspiring the next generation of athletes! Congratulations Lance, your journey is just beginning, and the best is yet to come!
