If you’re an expectant mom, adoptive mom, or soon-to-be grandma, you are likely thrilled for the event that’s about to take place: the addition of a sweet new baby! It is an extra special time that really cannot be described until you are experiencing it…the anticipation and joy is unmatched. When new moms book with me, they often have a lot of questions, which is perfectly understandable, and I love becoming a trusted source of information for them as they begin their parenting journey. Here are a few of the questions that I am asked most often:
- Will my baby be safe? As a new mom, you often face worries about the health and wellbeing of your newborn. I assure every client that we work hard to maintain a safe, secure, and warm environment for your little one. We keep the studio at an extremely comfortable temperature so our tiniest ones are warm and cozy. We also are well trained in safety and standard procedures, and we will never force a newborn into an unsafe pose or position. We allow parents (and encourage them) to be present and to breastfeed or bottle feed whenever they need to!
- Will you help me know what to wear, or what the baby should wear? Whether you are in the photos or not, we will provide you with all the answers you may need, such as what to wear or bring. We know dressing as a post partum mom can be challenging, and we want you to feel comfortable with your appearance. We are here to help, and can offer any suggestions or help with your outfit or color scheme.
- What happens if they cry, or poop? Guess what? After so many years as a newborn and family photographer, trust me, I have seen it all! Nothing fazes me, and I believe that humor and a great attitude can solve just about any problem. If your little one is having a fussy day or has gas or colic, I am patient and help mom and baby get as comfortable as possible. And we have seen plenty of “accidents” from our tiniest clients, and we can handle it all. Don’t worry about the mishaps, because we have prepared for just about everything.
- What if I can’t afford photos? This is a common concern of many new moms I meet. I understand that there are so many expenses when you welcome a baby, such as diapers, supplies, and hospital bills, so a newborn session may not be at the top of your list. I always encourage clients to put a photoshoot on their wishlist or “registry list”, or let family members know that you’d love to have a photoshoot in leui of other gifts. Of course, this can be considered tacky, so be sure to only ask family members and friends to pitch in if they ask what you may need! If you’re reading this, and you’re a grandma or relative, know that a gift certificate to a shoot is a welcome gift for many moms!
Those newborn months can be a total haze, so we recommend booking very early, when you are still pregnant. While you can’t predict when your baby will arrive, we can work with you with a general timeline, and you can keep us advised of when the baby is born! Just contact us to get started, and we can get you set up right away.
