What makes a photo my favorite? That's a hard question to answer, because I always associate the images I shoot with the beloved subjects in them. It's hard to choose a "favorite" when everyone I work with is actually my favorite! But I wanted to round up these end of year favs to show a variety of my work and some of the images that made my little photographer heart soar this year.
-The light is crucial: I love a great sun flare, golden lighting, and the way that shadows falling behind a subject can make their face look radiant. My favorite images always include a beautiful light aspect, whether it's studio lighting or outdoor natural light. The orchard shot (first in this series) really shows this off!
-I go for real emotions and reactions: Rarely are the images where everyone is smiling perfectly my favorites. Instead, I LOVE real laughter, genuine smiles, and the ones where little ones are looking up at their mom or sideways at their siblings...that's where the real life is, and where their most genuine expressions lie. I love when families are natural and simply enjoy being together and it reflects in the photos. You can see this in the snow photos.
-Sometimes a concept comes together perfect: The shot of the guy in the football helmet? I adore it. It's such a cool concept and has so much feeling to it. I love the lighting and the pose, and feel it'll be one his parents will treasure long after he hangs up his football pads. It'll bring back all the memories he has of this time in his life. I hope to replicate similar images for other sports during senior sessions!
-Beautiful images filled with REAL: I always strive to give my clients the experience they dream of, and photos that are better than they imagine. That means the "perfect" one may not be the one they love, and the one where their little one isn't smiling at all is the one that they treasure the most.
I can't wait to make more of these memories this year!
