In the crazy events that unfolded in 2020, many of us are left wondering what to do next. In fact, it may be the furthest thought from your mind to schedule your senior photo session, but we want to share some thoughts today about how your photoshoot is actually more meaningful than ever, and why you should book it even if you’re unsure.
- Your senior year is only happening once: Although some schools have tried to honor and help their seniors in recreating or repeating events like prom or graduation, those events really only happen once. They are a part of senior year that you can never really re-live and re-do. Thats why senior photos are so important…the emotions and feelings that are captured in your senior photos can’t really be authentic unless you do them during that time in your life.
- Your senior year matters…even if you’ve experienced trials this past year. Have you ever heard of the term “pain olympics”? It means when you feel you can’t speak up about your grief or sorrow, because others “have it worse” than you. I sincerely hope that you know whatever you and your family endured during pandemic, whether it is job loss, COVID illness, or mental illness during the stress of the year. Whatever you’ve been through, and whatever your loved ones have been through, it’s valid. And it’s okay if you still worry about senior year in the midst of other trials. It matters. It does!
- Your senior photos are a worthy investment: 2020 taught us that we never really know the future, and investing in things that really matter is the best thing we can do! Senior photos will be part of the legacy you share with your children and grandchildren, and your loved ones that want to celebrate your achievements. Although you may be wondering if spending money on photos is wise in the current economy, I can assure you that my past and present clients never regret investing in their family or senior photos…you can’t put a price on those memories.
- It’s also important to those around you. Your friends and family want to mark your senior year and graduation with you, and in reality, it means so much to all of you. They are part of your legacy and your story, and having the photos in print or product form will be something they can tangibly cherish for years to come. Things like grad announcements and invitations can even feel more important to your parents after the stress of their year, so be considerate of their feelings and what they may want.
