Gift Guide for a Brand New Mom
Are you a brand-new mama? Do you know someone who is? The holidays are the perfect time to spoil that friend who just had a baby, a family member who recently gave birth, or to think of things you might love if you just welcomed a bundle of joy (and if you buy these for yourself, we won’t tell!). Here are our best ideas to brighten the holidays for that sweet mom in your life:
- A night off of cooking: Say it louder for the people in the back: We. Are. Tired. Of. Cooking. I am not a new mother, and I don’t really want to cook dinner anymore! There is no better gift then blessing someone with the ability to put their feet up and not cook for the evening. Consider supporting a small business and ordering ahead for delivery to the mom you want to bless, or purchase a gift certificate so they can decide when they want delivery.
- Some beautiful new clothes: You may be cringing at the thought of trying to buy the right size for a new mom, and we understand! It can be a sensitive topic for someone who just had a baby to deal with trying to figure out their size, so stick with very generic, pretty items that are generous in size and forgiving, such as open cardigans, a pretty robe, slippers, socks, or scarves. If you really aren’t sure you can come close to her size, try a soft throw blanket instead. We recommend Barefoot Dreams if you want to really splurge and pamper her (or you!).
- Audiobooks, podcasts, or movies: Whether you breastfeed or not, as a new mom, you’re sitting down a lot more than normal when you’re recovering. You’re also up during the night more than ever! A perfect gift for a new mom is something to occupy her during those late night feedings or early mornings, such as a subscription to Audible or another audiobook company. Or, give her a Prime subscription or Netflix gift card, if she doesn’t already have a good streaming service.
- A frivolous day out: Most new moms don’t feel ready to leave their newborn, but often need self care! A gift card for a pedicure or hairstyling is a great way to allow her to choose when she is ready to leave the baby. Better yet, let her know that when she feels ready, you can go together. Another alternative is a massage or other spa treatment to make her feel beautiful.
- Coffee: Most new moms (if they’re able to) love some caffeine to get past those sleepless nights! A coffee card to their favorite spot is a great gift, and will help her not feel guilty when she gets herself a drive-through treat or two. Starbucks is always a safe bet if she has one nearby, or choose a local coffee shop that’s easy for her to get to.
No matter what you decide for the special mom in your life (or hey, send this link to the people who are buying gifts for you! Ha!), we hope these ideas have been helpful! Let us know in the comments if you have a great idea for a gift!
