I hadn't been able to blog this session until recently, and I am thrilled to share it with you now! What a wonderful shoot this was, and we really soaked up all the fall colors. Meet the Nielsen family! They are the sweetest, and we had so much fun on the day we met. Mom had chosen such a great color palette for all the family members, and it really worked beautifully with the fall scenery. When you are choosing family photo outfits, I really encourage you to:
Dress comfortably: No one looks happy or comfortable when they are in clothes that are too tight, long, or itchy! Be sure to try on all the outfits you will be wearing before the day of the session, and figure out if someone needs new shoes or a slip, etc. Then, have everyone be sure they can walk, sit down, and bend over in their clothes, so you don't risk splitting a seam or accidentally having a wardrobe malfunction! Knowing you look and feel great is important for everyone from adults on down to infants.
Choose colors and styles that are appropriate for the location: High heels may not be easy to walk in if you are in a field, so it's best to consider where you will be having your photos done. I am happy to help consult with you if you're unsure about what will look best in the location we are heading to. I recommend starting with mom or dad's outfit since adult clothes are harder to find and fit than children's clothes, so you want to make sure you have those nailed down before you choose kiddos' outfits. Check out retailers like Jcrew, H&M, and Old Navy for wearable separates that are also washable!
Give yourself much more time on the day of: The most common mistake that I see among young families is not allowing enough time to get everyone dressed and ready. This creates a stressful and frazzled energy, which really effects our littlest family members. Please allow additional time for hair, wardrobe, and everything else that pops up on family photo day. Plan to arrive at your sessions well-rested and fed, so that all the family members feel ready for a great day!
As always, I am happy to help you with anything related to your family shoot! Just click our contact page and we will get started!
