Choosing your senior wardrobe is one of the most important parts of your session, which also can make it one of the most stressful, tbh. So, I wanted to break down some of the more casual outfits that you can choose, and make it a little simpler. Most outfits come down to a formula. Before you roll your eyes and groan about me making this a math problem, hear me out. Every senior session can be put together using these points:
-Start with great basics: You may be surprised to know that great sessions begin with the right undergarments. Yep, they really lay the foundation for your outfits, and can make or break an outfit. I encourage all my clients (yep, guys and girls) to make sure they have clean, well-fitted undergarments before their session, but this particularly applies to my female clients. Please be sure to check your strapless bras, any shapewear, slips, and no-show undergarments to make sure they fit and don’t show through your clothing. Walk in front of a mirror and a lightsource to check the transparency of your outfits.
-Choose your favorite items first. Got a pair of jeans that you love? A blouse that’s a showstopper? Build a wardobe around what makes you feel confident and amazing. It’s okay to wear things you already own, especially if you don’t have the budget to buy an all-new wardrobe. Choose a few select pieces that you love, and find ways to include them or wear them in a new way. Fill in the gaps with new items if you need to, or simply freshen up what you already own with jewelry or new accessories.
-The romper is your unsung hero: I have absolutely loved seeing all the rompers my clients are wearing in their sessions, and wanted to suggest this option if you aren’t sure about what to wear. A dressy-style romper is easy to wear, comfortable, and stylish. It can also be layered under a denim jacket for a second look during your session. When choosing a romper, look for one that has wider straps so you’re not having to adjust any undergarments, fabric that won’t wrinkle (linen and rayon are very wrinkly, so if you go with those, bring a steamer), and one with wide, flowy legs. I recommend looking at Francesca’s online, and Altar’d State for higher quality, more trendy items that look like designer brands (without the designer price tag).
Casual looks can be timeless: Don’t dismiss the appeal of a regular tee and jeans for an everyday, classic look. To pull this look off, choose jeans that fit well, in a thicker, more durable denim. Add a tee that you love in a solid or with a minimal design, and add a clean, cute sneaker for an on-trend look. I also love for clients to bring sports equipment, letterman’s jackets, and your sports uniforms to add personality and depth to your shoot. Please let me know if you are planning to bring these so that I can design your session accordingly.
Fashion is all about versatility, and expressing your unique style in your own way. I encourage anyone putting together a senior session to work with these suggestions to compile a wardrobe that YOU love and feel amazing in. Please also know that I am always around to field questions or help you!
